Hoyas Welcome No. 1 Vermont to Shaw Field

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team will continue its six-match homestand with a matchup against the No. 1/1 University of Vermont Catamounts Monday afternoon at Shaw Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action.
 
Follow the Action  About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (1-2) is coming off of its first win of the season as the Hoyas upset No. 3 Pitt on Friday evening at Shaw Field.
  • Oliver Stafford scored his first-career goal to give the Hoyas the victory. Tate Lampman and Zach Zengue assisted on the goal.
  • Georgetown outshot Pitt 13-9, and both teams managed three shots on goal.  The Hoyas were awarded eight corners to Pitt's four.
  • Senior Tenzing Manske took the win in the net with three saves and the shutout.  
  • The Hoyas had opened the season with a 2-1 loss at High Point the previous week. Freshman Tim Logan scored GU's first goal of the year in the 88th minute, but it was not enough. GU then fell 1-0 to Maryland in the home opener under the lights at Shaw Field.
  • Georgetown was picked first in the BIG EAST Conference East Division Preseason Coaches Poll as the Hoyas were awarded 65 points and 10 first place votes
  • Four players earned preseason honors as Zengue, junior Matthew Van Horn and sophomores Mitchell Baker and Tate Lampman were all selected to the preseason All-BIG EAST squad.
  • Diego Letayf was selected as a third-year captain, classmate Julian Barrios Cristales joined him being selected by the coaching staff and their teammates to lead the 2025 squad as captains.
  • The Hoyas have a brutal schedule with a pair of top three opponents this weekend at Shaw Field.
About the Catamounts
  • Vermont is the reigning national champion and currently ranked No. 1 in the country in both the United Soccer Coaches and TopDrawerSoccer.com polls. 
  • The Catamounts are currently 2-0-1 on the season after a 1-1 draw at American on Friday evening in The District.
  • Maximilian Kissel and Marcell Papp lead the squad in scoring with four points apiece on a goal and two assists each.
  • Vermont's two wins this season came against Sacred Heart (2-0) and Boston University (4-0).

  • The Hoyas are 0-0-1 all-time against Vermont with the lone meeting resulting in a scoreless draw during the 2001 campaign.
  • This will be the teams' first meeting in Washington, D.C.
