WASHINGTON – The No. 20/25 Georgetown University women's soccer team defeated the Creighton Bluejays 3-1 in Omaha, on Saturday evening in the Hoyas BIG EAST opener. With the victory, GU improves to 5-2-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference action while Creighton slips to 3-5-1 on the season and 0-1 in BIG EAST play.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"This opening BIG EAST game was every bit the battle we thought it would be. We managed to survive the first 15 minutes of high pressure and settled in and started to take control of the game after that. When we scored late in the half, I thought we had just about got on top. So to then give up an equalizer on a set piece was very disappointing.
However, the girls' response in the second half was tremendous. They handled everything Creighton threw at them and really started to create some very good chances in the second half. I don't believe the scoreline flattered us at all and we had some great individual performances to secure the victory.
Henley Tippins was excellent tonight with a goal and assist and overall did a great job battling against a very physical team all night.
Shay Montgomery did so much dirty work in the midfield and our back three stood up to a barrage of crosses and high balls. This was a great rebound performance after Sunday's disappointing loss.
We have to head home now and prepare for another BIG EAST road game on Wednesday against my alma mater, the Harvard of the Oranges, Seton Hall."
