Hoya Women’s Golf Finishes 11th at Nittany Lion Invitational

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf team took 11th following two days of action at the Nittany Lion Invitational, carding a 50-over 914 (299-310-305) in State College, Pennsylvania. The 16-team field played all 54 holes on the par-72, 6,363-yard Blue Course at the Penn State Golf Club over two days. The host Nittany Lions won the event at 14-over 878 while the Hoyas were the top finisher among a trio of BIG EAST teams with St. John's (T13, +61) and Seton Hall (16, +85) also in the field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Georgia Ruffolo was the top Hoya finisher as she tied for 11th at 4-over 220 (72-73-75). She recorded the best score for a Hoya in each round and today's 3-over 75 was fueled by a pair of birdies and 12 pars. For the tournament, she tallied seven birdies (3/2/2) and 37 pars (12/13/12).
  • Newcomers Sunny Wang and Mimi Burton both tied for 47th at 15-over 231. Wang turned in cards of 75/78/78 over the three rounds bolstered by five birdies (4/0/1) and 30 pars (7/13/10).
  • Burton's 231 was fueled by cards of 76/78/77. In her GU opener, the transfer tallied six birdies (4/1/1) and 29 pars (6/12/11).
  • Sophomore Gabriella Eifrig shot up 10 spots into a tie for 66th at 20-over 236 (76-85-75). Her 3-over 75 in the final round tied for the best score for a Hoya in the final round of action and was fueled by a trio of birdies and nine pars. Over 54 holes, she tallied five birdies (1/1/3) and 32 pars (14/9/9).
  • Playing as an individual, Olivia Ty finished 83rd at 29-over 245 (78-83-84). The sophomore, who played a limited six rounds as a freshman, made her season debut and added a pair of birdies and eight pars in the round for a two-day total of four birdies (1/1/2) and 26 pars (9/9/8).
  • In her first tournament of the season, Catherine Qiu finished 84th at 31-over 247 (84-81-82). Over the course of two days, the sophomore managed a trio of birdies (0/2/1) and 24 pars (8/8/8).
