Hoyas Grab First BIG EAST Win of the Season Over Seton Hall

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University volleyball team defeated the Seton Hall Pirates, 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 25-17), on Friday night in South Orange, New Jersey. With the win, GU improves to 8-6 and 1-0 in BIG EAST play on the season while the Pirates slide to 6-6 and 0-1 in conference play.

"This first BIG EAST win means a lot to us. We've been working hard all of preseason and tonight it really showed. I'm proud of how we battled through tough points and always trusted each other. Starting conference play with this win under our belts gives us a lot of confidence and I'm excited to take on St. John's tomorrow!"

Hoya Highlights

  • Dionna Mitchell led the Hoya charge with a team-best 14 kills, while Samantha Soderlund and Katherine McGregor chipped in 11 and nine kills, respectively.
  • Kamryn Lee-Caracci led the service game, leading the team with four aces with Natalie Nguyen and Mitchell behind her with two each.
  • On defense, Lee-Caracci led the squad with six blocks.
  • Juleigh Urbina paced the offense with a team-high 23 assists, with Nguyen close behind at 18.
  • Ubina tallied a team-best nine digs while Mitchell had eight for the Hoya defense.
