Georgetown Travels to Providence for BIG EAST Battle

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team heads to Providence, Rhode Island to take on the Providence College Friars on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff at Amica Mutual Pavilion is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • In the last outing, Georgetown (9-10, 1-7 BE) couldn't contain a second-half surge, falling 66-51 to Villanova at Finneran Pavilion. A pair of Hoyas were in double figures with Kayvaun Mulready and KJ Lewis each reaching 12 points. Mulready came off the bench for the career best while Lewis tallied his 16th game in double figures this season. Julius Halaifonua and Vince Iwuchukwu each collected eight rebounds in the contest to lead the Hoyas on the glass while Malik Mack's five assists paced the GU offense.
  • A quartet of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who is tallying 14.7 ppg, followed by Mack (13.8 ppg), Halaifonua (10.3 ppg) and Caleb Williams (10.1 ppg).
  • C. Williams leads the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 5.5 rpg, followed by Iwuchukwu (5.4 rpg), Lewis (5.3 rpg) and Halaifonua (4.8 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.3 apg, which ranks sixth in the league, followed by Lewis who averages 2.7 apg.
  • Lewis ranks second in the BIG EAST and leads the Hoyas in strips with 2.0 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll in Head Coach Ed Cooley's third season at the helm.
 
ABOUT THE FRIARS
  • Providence enters the matchup with a 9-10 start to the 2025-26 season, including a 2-6 mark in BIG EAST play.
  • In its last outing, Providence dropped a 105-104 overtime decision at Marquette at Fiserv Forum on Tuesday evening. Jaylin Sellers (27) and Stefan Vaaks (26) combined for 53 points as the duo led a quartet of Friars in double figures followed by Jamier Jones (17) and Duncan Powell (11). Oswin Erhunmwunse led PC on the glass pulling down 15 rebounds while Sellers' five helpers paced the offense.
  • Jason Edwards leads Providence averaging 17.2 ppg, followed by Sellers (15.9 ppg), Vaaks (15.4 ppg) and Jones (12.3 ppg) to round out those in double figures.
  • Erhunmwunse grabs 7.7 rpg to lead the Friars while the duo of Ryan Mela and Corey Floyd Jr. each collect 4.7 rpg.
  • Vaaks and Edwards pace the Friar offense, each dishing out 3.3 apg.
  • Providence is led by Head Coach Kim English in his third season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and Providence will meet for the 87th time in program history, with the Hoyas leading 48-38 in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was February 19, 2025 with the Hoyas winning 93-72 at home. Micah Peavy, now with the New Orleans Pelicans, poured in 30 points on 50.0% (11-22) shooting to lead a quartet of Hoyas in double figures at Capital One Arena. Peavy added seven boards, seven assists and six steals for the complete game.
  • Cooley is 1-5 all-time against PC and sits at 1-4 against English in his career.
