Georgetown Set to Challenge Butler on the Road

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team travels to Indianapolis to take on the Butler University Bulldogs at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for noon.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • In the last outing, Georgetown (11-10, 3-7 BE) defeated DePaul 70-61 at Capital One Arena. Malik Mack led a quartet of Hoyas in double figures with 16 points that included a perfect 10-for-10 performance at the charity stripe. Julius Halaifonua and Vince Iwuchukwu chipped in 11 points apiece while Caleb Williams added 10 of his own. Lewis, C. Williams and Kayvaun Mulready each pulled down six rebounds to lead the Hoyas on the boards. Mack dished out seven assists while Lewis dropped five to pace the Hoya offense.
  • A quartet of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who is tallying 14.8 ppg, followed by Mack (13.9 ppg), Iwuchukwu (10.3 ppg) and C. Williams (10.0 ppg). Lewis ranks 10th in the BE in scoring.
  • C. Williams leads the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 5.6 rpg, followed by Lewis with 5.3 rpg and Iwuchukwu with 5.1 rpg.
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.3 apg, which ranks sixth in the league, followed by Lewis who averages 2.8 apg.
  • Lewis ranks third in the BIG EAST and leads the Hoyas in strips with 2.0 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll in Head Coach Ed Cooley's third season at the helm.
 
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
  • Butler enters the matchup with a 13-8 record for the 2025-26 season, including a 4-6 mark in BIG EAST play.
  • In its last outing, Butler fell to St. John's 92-70 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday evening. Michael Ajayi led a quartet of Bulldogs in double figures with 19 points on six made field goals to go along with seven free throws. Jamie Kaiser Jr. and Evan Haywood followed up with 12 points apiece while Finley Bizjack added 11 points to round out those in double figures. Ajayi led Butler on the glass with 11 boards for the double-double. Ajayi, Haywood and Efeosa Oliogu-Elabor each dished out a pair of assists to pace the offense.
  • Bizjack leads Butler in scoring with 17.2 ppg, followed by Ajayi (16.5 ppg) to round out those averaging double figures.
  • Ajayi is averaging a double-double as his 11.5 rpg lead Butler on the boards.
  • Ajayi and Azavier Robinson pace the Butler offense with 3.2 apg and 2.5 apg, respectively.
  • Butler is led by Head Coach Thad Matta in his fourth season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and Butler will meet for the 27th time in program history, with the Bulldogs holding a 14-12 advantage in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was on February 15, 2025 with the Hoyas falling 97-86 on the road. Micah Peavy, now with the New Orleans Pelicans, led a quintet of Hoyas in double figures with 21 points on eight made field goals to go along with 10 assists for the double-double. Mack added 18 points while Jayden Epps contributed 15 points (5-10 FG), Jordan Burks chipped in 11 (4-7 FG) and Thomas Sorber, now with the reigning NBA Champions Oklahoma City Thunder tallied 10 points in a mere 12 minutes before exiting with a season-ending injury.
  • Georgetown's last victory was on January 31, 2025, a 73-70 win at Capital One Arena.
  • Cooley is 19-8 all-time against Butler and sits at 3-4 against Matta in his career.
