WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over St. John's on Saturday night at Shaw Field, as Abby Droner converted a late penalty kick to secure the win. With the result, the Hoyas improve to 4-4-4 overall, while the Red Storm fall to 3-6-4.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
- "The most important thing about tonight's game was the result. The funny thing was, it started off a script like almost every other game we played without really being under any pressure, they scored on their first shot. But they're a good team and they make a hard fight and they're well organized and they always have a purpose when they have the ball. So when they have possession, you've got to work hard to get it back. Obviously, we got back with the first goal. Then it was a matter, I told the kids at halftime, listen, we got to win the game. If you want to have any aspirations of playing in the postseason, we can't afford to let another two points slip off at home. Then, for the first time all season, we get a call that goes in our favor. Credit to Abby for having the calmness to finish it. It gets us three points on the board, but we got a week to prepare for Butler, and hopefully we can get everybody healthy, because at this point we got to pick up points and win."
