Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Georgetown Falls to Seton Hall, 1-0

WASHINGTON  - The Georgetown University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Seton Hall on Saturday night at Shaw Field. With the result, Georgetown moves to 5-5-5 overall and 2-3-3 in BIG EAST play, while Seton Hall improves to 6-2-5 overall and 2-2-3 in conference action.

Head Coach Dave Nolan

  • "Sometimes you have to make your own luck, and sometimes you have to overcome bad luck. But I feel bad for the kids, because we were well on top of that game, the stoppage didn't help.
  • We were well on top of things, and then it's no coincidence that first five minutes after the stoppage was when they did the damage, when they got the goal, and they deserved it, because that five minute spell, they actually had a couple of chances, and we just couldn't really figure it out. But over the run of play, even at the end there, we still got into great spots, and we still had some really good chances."

About the Match

  • Georgetown created several chances in the first half, with Caroline Spengler recording two shots on goal and Lizzie Heller adding two attempts on target, but the Seton Hall goalkeeper kept the Hoyas off the scoreboard.
  • The Hoyas continued to apply pressure before halftime, as Abby Droner put a shot on target in the 35th minute and Georgetown earned two corner kicks in the opening half.
  • Georgetown looked to break through after the break, with Droner forcing another save from the Pirates goalie in the 52nd minute before Maya Wiese and Jocelyn Lohmeyer recorded shots on goal.
  • The Hoyas continued to generate chances, but Seton Hall's keeper made another save on Lohmeyer in the 63rd minute as Georgetown searched for the opening goal.
  • Seton Hall broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, as Brianna Azevedo found the back of the net off an assist from Gianna Angelillo to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
  • Georgetown pushed for an equalizer in the closing minutes, but Seton Hall held firm to secure the 1-0 victory at Shaw Field.
