Hoyas Host Butler on Wednesday Night

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team hosts the Butler University Bulldogs on Wednesday at Capital One Arena for a midweek BIG EAST showdown. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • In its last outing, Georgetown (13-12, 5-9 BE) dropped a close one to the then-No. 6 UConn Huskies 79-75 at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs. KJ Lewis had a near double-double and led a trio of Hoyas in scoring with 24 points on 50.0% shooting while pulling down a team-high nine boards and recording five steals. Off the bench, Vince Iwuchuku posted 16 points on 4-for-6 from the field, and Kayvaun Mulready scored a career-high 15 points that was fueled by a 4-for-7 performance from beyond the arc. Jeremiah Williams paced the offense with five assists. 
  • A trio of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who is tallying 15.5 ppg, followed by Mack (14.2 ppg) and Iwuchukwu (11.7 ppg). Lewis ranks eighth in the BE in scoring.
  • Iwuchukwu leads the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 6.1 rpg, followed by Caleb Williams and Lewis with 5.4 rpg each.
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.2 apg, which is sixth in the league, followed by Lewis who averages 2.7 apg.
  • Lewis ranks first in the BIG EAST and leads the Hoyas in strips with 2.3 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll in Head Coach Ed Cooley's third season at the helm.
 
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
  • Butler enters the matchup with a 13-13 record for the 2025-26 season, including a 4-11 mark in BIG EAST play.
  • In its last outing, Butler fell to Seton Hall 63-56 at home on Sunday evening. Michael Ajayi posted a double-double and was the lone Bulldog in double figures, scoring a game-high 21 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the field while also grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. Yame Butler paced the Bulldog offense with seven assists.
  • Finley Bizjack leads Butler in scoring with 17.4 ppg, followed by Ajayi with 15.7 ppg to round out those averaging double figures.
  • Ajayi is grabbing 11.3 rpg to lead the Bulldogs on the glass.
  • Ajayi and Azavier Robinson pace the Bulldog offense with 3.2 apg and 2.5 apg, respectively.
  • Butler is led by Head Coach Thad Matta in his fourth season with the Bulldogs.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and Butler will meet for the 28th time in program history, with the Bulldogs holding a narrow 14-13 edge in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was last month when the Hoyas defeated the Bulldogs 77-64 on the road. Iwuchukwu and Lewis led the Hoyas in scoring with 17 points apiece. Iwuchukwu registered a 1-for-1 performance from beyond the arc and went a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe, while Lewis hit a trio of triples in the win. Iwuchukwu and Isaiah Abraham led the Hoyas on the glass with six boards apiece while Jeremiah Williams and Malik Mack paced the offense with six assists each.
  • Cooley is 20-8 all-time against Butler and sits at 4-4 against Matta in his career.
