Georgetown Hosts Marquette for Midweek BIG EAST Contest

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team returns to the District to host the Marquette University Golden Eagles. Tipoff at Capital One Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • In its last outing, Georgetown (13-14, 5-11 BE) fell short at Seton Hall, falling 51-47 at Prudential Center on Saturday night. KJ Lewis was the lone Hoya in double figures with 10 points while Malik Mack and Julius Halaifonua were just shy with nine apiece. Vince Iwuchukwu grabbed a squad-best eight rebounds while Caleb Williams and Halaifonua managed seven. C. Williams paced the offense with four assists.                                                                                    
  • A trio of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who is tallying 15.3 ppg, followed by Mack (13.9 ppg) and Iwuchukwu (11.1 ppg). Lewis ranks eighth in the BE in scoring.
  • Iwuchukwu leads the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 5.9 rpg, followed by C. Williams (5.4 rpg) and Lewis (5.2 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.2 apg, which is sixth in the league, followed by Lewis (2.6 apg) and Jeremiah Williams (2.5 apg).
  • Lewis ranks second in the BIG EAST and leads the Hoyas in strips with 2.2 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll in Head Coach Ed Cooley's third season at the helm.
 
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES
  • Marquette enters the matchup with a 9-18 record for the 2025-26 season, including a 4-12 mark in BIG EAST play.
  • In its last outing, Marquette fell at home to the then-No. 17/16 St. John's Red Storm, 76-70. Nigel James Jr. led a pair of Golden Eagles in double figures with 25 points while Royce Parham chipped in 13 points. Ben Gold grabbed a squad-best 10 rebounds while Chase Ross paced the offense with four assists.
  • James Jr. leads Marquette with 16.1 ppg, followed by Ross (14.5 ppg) and Parham (12.4 ppg) to round out the MU players in double figures.
  • Gold's 5.6 rpg leads the Golden Eagles on the boards.
  • James Jr.'s 4.9 apg paces the MU offense while Ross chips in 3.5 apg.
  • Marquette is led by Head Coach Shaka Smart in his fifth season with the Golden Eagles.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and Marquette will meet for the 41st time in program history, with the Hoyas holding a 15-25 record in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was December 17, 2025 with the Blue & Gray coming away with a 78-69 win at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. Halaifonua led a quintet of Hoyas in double figures with 21 points, followed by J. Williams (15), Mack (13), C. Williams (11) and Langston Love (10). The quartet of Halaifonua, C. Williams, Love and Jayden Fort each grabbed six rebounds to lead GU on the boards while J. Williams and Mack dished out five assists apiece to pace the offense.
  • The last GU win against MU at Capital One Arena was on February 11, 2017 when the Hoyas won 80-62. Jessie Govan led a trio of Hoyas with 20+ points as he tallied 23 points on 9-for-19 shooting while LJ Peak and Rodney Pryor chipped in 10 apiece. Akoy Agau grabbed a squad-best 11 boards while Pryor pulled down 10 for the double-double. Jagan Mosely's six helpers paced the offense.
  • Cooley maintains an 11-16 record against the Golden Eagles and a 5-6 mark against Smart.
  • In a battle of the big men, GU's Halaifonua (7-0, C) of Auckland, New Zealand will take the floor against MU's Gold (6-11, F) of Wellington, New Zealand. Both are products of the NBA Global Academy.
