WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team powered past the FDU Knights 12-1 on Friday afternoon at Capital One Park. With the victory in Tysons, Virginia, the Hoyas improve to 6-4 on the season while the Knights fall to 1-3.
ON THE RECORD
"Really proud of our group. I thought, after getting down early, after the first inning for Kai Leckszas, really settled in and was just truly what we needed on a Friday night to be consistent, to be a senior. And he battled, and did a great job, and went six innings for us, and Max (Whitmer) right behind him. That helped save our bullpen going into the weekend. But I thought overall, it was a really clean defensive game, which we've been trying to work through. And we limited our free bases, and we took advantage of some opportunities offensively. I thought Jackson Thomas got us going with the inside the park home run. Great send by coach Robinson with two outs, which got the energy going. Then Brett Blair with a big three run home run to take the lead, to separate ourselves. Christian Hamilton and Brett Blair had their first career home runs hit, so just proud of our guys. Drew Rybinski coming off the bench, Braxton Templin coming off the bench. Just some good baseball for us. And now we have to come back out tomorrow and try to win a series." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson

HOW IT HAPPENED
- FDU jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first when Johnathan Gomez led off the game with a solo home run to left field. However, Leckszas quickly regained his composure, inducing a double play to end the frame and keeping the Knights off the board for the remainder of his outing.
- The Hoya offense took over in the bottom of the second. After Blair singled, Thomas crushed a two-run inside the park homer to center field to put Georgetown up 2-1.The lead ballooned in the fourth when Brett Blair connected on a massive three-run home run to center, scoring Hamilton and Price.
- Georgetown added two more in the fifth, capitalizing on an FDU error and a sacrifice fly from Hamilton. The floodgates opened in the sixth inning as the Hoyas plated four runs, highlighted by a Peek RBI double and a towering two-run home run from Hamilton to left field.
- In the seventh, the bench contributed to the scoring as Rybinski doubled and was driven in by a Templin double to left field. Whitmer was dominant in relief, facing just 11 batters over the final three innings and inducing a game-ending double play in the ninth to secure the 12-1 win.
