How it Happened
- A low scoring affair to begin with, defense held strong the majority of the opening frame. Georgetown struck first as Schubert hit the back of the net at the 4:34 mark courtesy of an assist from Bickel. Rory Connor added an unassisted goal with 1:54 remaining to give the Hoyas a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes.
- Ohio State mounted a comeback in the second, outscoring GU 3-0 in the frame to take a 3-2 lead going into halftime. The Buckeyes scored a man-up goal early at 14:13 to get on the board and added goals at the 8:47 and 6:34 marks.
- Coming out of the locker room, OSU struck in the first minute again, scoring at the 14:20 mark to take a two-goal lead up 4-2. The Hoyas responded with back-to-back goals from Ransom and Mason within a minute of each other to tie things up with 12:27 to play, but the Buckeyes answered with another two of their own 39 seconds apart to go up 6-4. Undeterred, the Hoyas tallied off three-straight goals – two from Rory Connor and one from Bickel – to retake the lead up 7-6 with 1:13 to play in the stanza. Ohio State would manage to knot things up on a broken play in front of the GU goal with just four seconds remaining.
- Tied up 7-7 to start the fourth, both squads hit back-to-back goals to make it a 9-9 game with 5:55 to play. Ohio State would hit the eventual game-winner with 1:43 remaining before a rocket from Bickel with 39 seconds to go careened off the crossbar and was collected by OSU to run out the clock.
