WASHINGTON – The No. 23 Georgetown women's lacrosse team (6-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) opened conference play with a resilient 11-10 comeback victory over the Marquette University Golden Eagles (5-4, 0-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Georgetown and Marquette traded blows in a whirlwind opening period that featured four ties and four lead changes. Gracie Driggs ignited the Hoya offense with two early goals to help the Blue & Gray enter the first break deadlocked at 4-4.
- The Golden Eagles found momentum in the second quarter, outscoring the Hoyas 3-1. Despite a goal from Betsy Burton, Marquette utilized a three-goal run to build a 7-5 lead heading into the halftime locker room.
- The Hoya defense stiffened in the third quarter, limiting Marquette to two goals as the offense found its rhythm. Scoring strikes from Sophia Loschert and Driggs helped Georgetown engineer a productive 3-2 period, narrowing the gap to 9-8 heading into the fourth.
- The fourth quarter saw a determined Georgetown squad score three of the final four goals to regain the lead. After Marquette's Isabelle Casucci tied the game at 10-10 with 8:52 remaining, Molly Davies provided the heroics by netting the game-winner with 7:37 left on the clock. The Hoya defense stood tall in the closing minutes, anchored by a crucial late save from Leah Warehime to seal the 11-10 final.

- The Hoya offense was led by Driggs with a game-high five points on four goals and one assist.
- Davies recorded three points on two goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal.
- Amanda Brille led the team in the center circle, securing a team-high four draw controls.
- Christina King paced the defensive effort with a team-high four ground balls.
- Seven different Hoyas recorded a caused turnover in a disciplined defensive performance: King, Loschert, Reagan Ziegler, Driggs, Izzy Appelt, Anne McGovern, and Amanda Brille.
- Leah Warehime notched 12 saves in the cage to earn her sixth win of the year.
