Hoyas Clinch BIG EAST Tournament Berth with 17-7 Win Over Marquette

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's No. 12/13 men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Marquette 17-7 to clinch a spot in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament, Presented by JEEP. The Hoyas improve to 6-4 overall and remain undefeated at 3-0 in league play while the Golden Eagles fall to 6-5 and suffer their first BIG EAST loss to move to 2-1.
 
Hoya Highlights How it Happened
  • The Hoyas took early advantage of a high-scoring first quarter, rushing to a quick 4-0 lead in just under four minutes of action. Following a Marquette timeout, the visitors would rally back and score three-straight goals to pull within one – down 4-3. It was all Georgetown from there, scoring the next six goals to lead 10-3 before the Golden Eagles stopped a 19:25 scoring drought to salvage a 10-4 GU lead heading into halftime.
  • In the second half, the two squads traded early goals in the third before the Blue & Gray posted another 5-0 run to lead 16-5, capped by back-to-back Rory Connor goals in the first minute of the fourth quarter. A pair of late Marquette goals snapped another 20:49 scoring drought before the Hoyas converted a man-up situation with 22 seconds remaining to clinch the 17-7 victory.
Marquette Notes
  • Nolan Rappis led the Golden Eagles with two goals and two assists while Beau Westphal added two goals and Carsen Brandt had three assists.
  • In goal, Lucas Lawas (6-5) had eight saves in the loss.
Georgetown Notes
  • Liam Connor's eight assists tie Lucas Wittenberg (B'18) for the single game Georgetown record, set against Providence in the 2018 BIG EAST Semifinals hosted by Denver. His eight assists are also tied for the NCAA single game mark this season – matching Joey Spallina's eight for Syracuse against Air Force on March 12.
  • Liam Connor also passes Wittenberg for the fourth-place in a season on the Hilltop with 38 assists.
  • Rory Connor's seven goals are tied for the ninth-most in a single game for the Hoyas, also tying his career-high from the 2026 season opener at Penn.
  • Rory Connor's 41 goals are tied for the 14th-most in a campaign, tying Georgetown Hall of Famer Greg McCavera (C'99) in 1998.
  • Banks tied a career high with four caused turnovers and moves into sole possession of fifth-place all-time at Georgetown with 56, passing Alex Mazzone (B'22).
