Georgetown Falls to No. 17 Denver in BIG EAST Regular Season Finale

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's lacrosse team (11-5, 5-1 BIG EAST) saw its perfect conference record come to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling 11-5 to the No. 17 University of Denver Pioneers (13-3, 6-0 BIG EAST) at Cooper Field. With the victory, Denver clinches the BIG EAST regular season title and the top seed in the upcoming conference championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Denver established control early, outscoring the Hoyas 4-1 in the opening frame. Danica Blix provided the lone tally for the Blue & Gray in the first quarter off an assist from Molly Byrne.
  • The defensive units took center stage in the second quarter. Georgetown's Anne McGovern found the back of the net twice to keep the Hoyas within striking distance, trailing 5-3 at the halftime break.
  • The Pioneers pulled away in the third, utilizing a 4-1 run to extend their lead. Sophia Loschert scored her 32nd goal of the season during the frame, but Denver's Olivia Ripple countered with a prolific afternoon to maintain the Pioneer advantage.
  • In a defensive fourth quarter, Molly Davies scored for Georgetown, but the Pioneers' lead proved insurmountable.
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Anne McGovern led the Georgetown offense with two goals on five shots.
  • Molly Davies recorded a team-high three points (1G, 2A).
  • Sophia Loschert and Danica Blix each contributed a goal, while Lauren Steer and Betsy Burton added assists.
  • Graduate goalkeeper Leah Warehime was stellar under pressure, recording 12 saves, her second-highest total of the season, against 28 Denver shots.
  • Lucy Nace led the Hoyas at the draw circle with six draw controls.
  • The Hoya defense remained disciplined, recording seven caused turnovers and successfully clearing 22 of 24 attempts.

Georgetown has secured the No. 2 seed in the 2026 BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Championship. The Hoyas will travel to Denver, Colorado, for the tournament semifinals held at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Thursday, April 30.
