Box Score WASHINGTON – The second-seeded Georgetown University women's lacrosse team (12-5, 5-1 BIG EAST) punched its ticket to the BIG EAST Championship final with a commanding 12-6 victory over the third-seeded UConn Huskies (7-11, 3-3 BIG EAST) on Thursday night. The Hoyas utilized a balanced offensive attack and a disciplined defensive performance to secure their spot in Saturday's title game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgetown opened the scoring early when
Gracie Driggs found the back of the net on a man-up opportunity. After UConn responded to tie the game at 1-1,
Reagan Ziegler regained the lead for the Blue & Gray with just 13 seconds remaining in the first period. The Hoyas then broke the game open in the second quarter with a dominant 4-0 run.
Molly Davies ignited the surge, followed by goals from Ziegler,
Danica Blix, and
Sophia Loschert, allowing Georgetown to carry a comfortable 6-1 advantage into halftime.
The momentum continued in the third quarter as Loschert and Driggs each added scores to extend the lead. Despite UConn ending a long scoring drought with a man-up goal at the 9:08 mark,
Betsy Burton answered back for the Hoyas to make it 9-3 heading into the final frame. While the Huskies attempted a late rally with three goals in the fourth quarter, Georgetown's defense remained composed.
