WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's Department of Athletics had 14 teams honored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) with Public Recognition Awards for high Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.
GU's squads were among a group of more than 1,600 Division I sports teams honored for their multi-year APR scores, which are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport. Georgetown had 12 BIG EAST-sponsored teams (women's rowing and football participate in the Patriot League) recognized for their performance in the classroom, and led the league.
Georgetown teams publicly recognized by the NCAA included: baseball, field hockey, football, men's lacrosse, men's soccer, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's golf, women's rowing, women's soccer, women's swimming & diving, women's tennis, women's track and volleyball.
Of the 14 recognized teams, 13 received perfect 1.000 scores for 2024-25 tying GU for fifth in the nation.
Two of Georgetown's programs, field hockey and women's swimming & diving, are among a small group nationally that have been publicly recognized in the 20-year existence of the program.
The national four-year Academic Progress Rate for Division I teams rose by two points to an overall rate of 986, marking an uptick from the prior four consecutive years of a steady rate. Georgetown registered a score of 995 for 2024-25.
Each academic year, every Division I sports team's APR is calculated using a simple and consistent formula. Scholarship student-athletes can earn 1 point for staying on course for a degree in their chosen major and 1 point for being retained (or graduating) at the end of each academic term. A team's total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000. For schools that do not offer athletics scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.
