WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's soccer team was picked first in the BIG EAST Conference East Division Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday as the Hoyas were awarded 66 points and 11 first place votes. Additionally, three players earned preseason honors.  Junior captain Tate Lampman was named the Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, classmate Mitchell Baker earned Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year honors and senior Matthew Van Horn joined the pair on the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad.

• Baker was recently called up to the Indonesian Men's National Team to play in the ASEAN Hyundai Cup where he scored a hat trick in his debut match and tallied four goals in the tournament. Indonesia went 2-1-1 in the event.
• Last season, Baker was named a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist and Second Team All-American as well as First Team All-East Region by the United Soccer Coaches and unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST.
• Baker started all 21 games he appeared in and ranked second on the squad in scoring with 14 goals and three assists for 31 points on the year.
• His five game winners led the BIG EAST Conference and ranked sixth in the nation.
• Baker was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week once this past season as well as earning three nods to the weekly honor roll.
• He was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament team following Georgetown's victory.
• This is his second-career preseason honor.

• Lampman started in all 13 games he appeared in this past season as the Hoyas won the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship, the BIG EAST Championship and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals.
• He was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament team as well as the Most Outstanding Defensive Player in the tournament.
• He had two goals, one being a game winner, and two assists for six points on the year.
• The defender missed nine games this past season due to injury.
• Last spring, he was called into the U.S. Under-19 Men's National Team camp in Marbella, Spain and the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team camp this past January.
• In his first year on the Hilltop, he was the 2024 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and a Third Team All-BIG EAST honoree.
• This is his second-career preseason honor.

Matthew Van Horn

• Van Horn was a Third Team All-BIG EAST selection a season ago.
• He started 10 of the 17 games he played for the Blue & Gray before suffering a season-ending injury.
• Van Horn managed two goals with six assists for 10 points on the season to rank fourth on the squad, and went 1-1 on penalty kicks.
• This is his second preseason honor.

Preseason Poll

• Following Georgetown was UConn in second with 46 points, while Providence received the remaining first-place vote and 45 points to place third. St. John's was picked fourth with 37 points, followed by Seton Hall with 36 and Villanova with 16.
• Akron took the top spot in the Midwest Division as the Zips received 66 points and 11 first-place votes. Creighton earned the remaining first-place vote and 56 points to rank second, followed by Xavier with 43 points. Marquette was selected fourth with 34 points, DePaul fifth with 27 and Butler sixth with 20.
• Earlier this month, the Hoyas were selected at No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll.
