WASHINGTON – The No. 5/13 Georgetown University men's soccer team (7-1-1, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) will head out to take on the No. 17/17 University of Akron Zips in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at FirstEnergy Stadium in Akron, Ohio on Friday evening. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

• The Hoyas are coming off a 3-2 comeback victory over Evansville on Monday evening in nonconference action.
• Georgetown trailed twice in the contest, but battled back in the 65th and 69th minutes to get the win.
• Junior Jack Brown had a huge game scoring his first two goals on the Hilltop in the contest.
• On Monday, senior Eric Howard was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, Noah Strellnauer earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and senior Mateo Ponce Ocampo received a nod to the weekly honor roll.
• Howard helped Georgetown post its fourth shutout victory of the season in a 3-0 win over Marquette in the BIG EAST opener.
• Strellnauer scored his first collegiate goal in Georgetown's victory, and Ponce Ocampo assisted on two of Georgetown's three goals in the win.
• Junior Mitchell Baker is leading the squad in scoring with seven goals and two assists for 16 points on the season. He is followed by senior Matthew Van Horn with three goals and five assists for 11 points.
• Junior captain Tate Lampman is third with four goals and one assist, while Ponce Ocampo rounds out the top four with one goal and five assists. 
• The Hoyas are currently ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, and No. 9 by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

About the Zips

• The Zips (5-0-2, 0-0-1 BIG EAST) enter the contest ranked No. 17 in both the latest United Soccer Coaches and TopDrawerSoccer.com poll.
• It will be the Zips' second ranked matchup of the season, their first being against then-No. 18 Cornell. In that match, Akron came from behind twice and defeated the Big Red, 3-2, at home back on September 8.
• After a scoreless draw against Butler in their BIG EAST opener, the Zips rebounded and rattled off a season-high five goals in a non-conference matchup against Robert Morris on Tuesday.

• The Hoyas are 1-3-1 all-time against the Zips, 0-1 on the road.
• The last meeting was a 2-1 Georgetown victory in overtime during the 2024 BIG EAST Championship. Earlier that year, GU had fallen to Akron, 1-0, at home in a regular season matchup.
