WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University volleyball team dropped its final match of the Battle of the Beltway on Sunday afternoon, falling 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 18-25, 22-25) to UMBC at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore. With the loss, the Hoyas move to 6-3 overall, while the Retrievers even their record at 3-3.
The Retrievers built a four-point lead midway through the opener, using a 6-1 run to pull ahead 17-13. The Hoyas attempted to surge back behind three kills each from
Berkeley Ploder and
Grace Albaugh, but UMBC held on for a 25-23 set win.
Georgetown gained an early 8-5 advantage in the second frame before UMBC answered with a 4-1 run to take a 10-9 lead. After tying the set at 10, the Hoyas responded with a 6-1 scoring run of their own to claim a 25-19 victory.
The teams traded points throughout the third set until UMBC used a 5-0 run to craft a 16-12 lead, eventually taking the frame 25-18.
Three kills from
Dionna Mitchell helped the Hoyas open the fourth set with an 8-4 lead before UMBC pulled even at 11 with a 6-1 scoring run. Georgetown faced a late five-point deficit but trimmed the gap to two behind Mitchell's offensive output. However, the Retrievers held off the late push to take the set 25-22 and close out the match in four sets.

- Mitchell led the offense with 16 kills while registering a team-high 12 digs to secure a double-double.
- Kamryn Lee-Caracci floored 14 kills without an error to hit .560, while Ploder added 11 kills on a .346 clip.
- Juleigh Urbina dished out a team-high 48 assists.
- Taylor Mercado anchored the back row with nine digs, while Jessica Lee and Urbina chipped in seven apiece.
- Ploder set the standard at the net with a match-high six blocks, while Katherine McGregor added five blocks.
- Georgetown posted a solid .296 hitting efficiency on 59 team kills compared to UMBC's .292 mark.
- The Hoyas controlled the net defense, holding a 9-5 advantage in total team blocks.
