Hoyas Roll Past Bison in Straight-Set Road Win

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University volleyball team earned its fourth sweep of the season, defeating Howard 3-0 (26-24, 25-11, 25-19) on Thursday night inside Burr Gymnasium. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 7-3 overall, while the Bison drop to 1-9.

"Great team win tonight! Very excited for the offense and our defense working together to put together a solid team effort against an always tough Howard team, especially at home. Looking forward to a great crowd tomorrow for our white out! Hoya Saxa! " - Head Coach AJ Bonetti

"I think our team came in ready for a fun D.C. rivalry game and went out swinging. Our block and defense did an amazing job flying around and putting hands in their faces. The team really grinded it out and continued to play together as a family because we wanted to go and take that dub. " - Junior Taylor Mercado

After back-and-forth action to open the first set, the Hoyas used a 7-2 run to build a 13-9 lead midway through the frame. Despite a late surge by the Bison, Georgetown claimed the set in extra points, 26-24. Freshman Avery Lewis led the offense with five kills on a .444 hitting percentage in the opening frame.

Georgetown jumped out to a 9-4 advantage in the second set, forcing an early Howard timeout. The Blue and Gray stayed in rhythm offensively, cruising to a 25-11 victory. As a team, Georgetown hit .435 while racking up seven total blocks in the set.

The momentum continued in the third set as the Hoyas built an early 11-6 cushion before a 5-0 run from the Bison trimmed the gap to one. Georgetown answered, pulling away for a 25-19 victory to seal the straight-set sweep.
