WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team fell to the Columbia Lions in overtime, 20-17 on Saturday evening at Cooper Field. With the loss in Washington, D.C., the Hoyas slip to 0-3 while the Lions improve to 2-0.

"Anytime you go to overtime, it's tough. Columbia is a really good football team, and I give Coach Poppe and their team a lot of credit. I'm really proud of our kids and how they competed and supported each other throughout the game. There are things we need to improve on in all three phases, but these are the games we're going to be in throughout the year. My job is to find a way to get us five more plays so we can come out with a win. HOW IT HAPPENED
- Columbia opened the scoring late in the first quarter, putting together a 14-play, 83-yard drive that lasted more than seven minutes. Chase Goodwin connected with Braden Dougherty on a 16-yard touchdown pass to give the Lions an early 7-0 lead.
- Georgetown answered with an 82-yard scoring drive, capped by a 26-yard touchdown pass from Johnson to Carroll to tie the game at 7-7. Columbia regained the lead just before halftime when Hugo Merry converted a 38-yard field goal, sending the Lions into the break ahead 10-7.
- The Hoyas came out strong in the second half, with Mahasin providing a major spark on a 71-yard punt return for a touchdown to put Georgetown ahead 14-10.
- Georgetown extended its lead later in the third quarter when Anderson connected on a 23-yard field goal following an eight-play, 70-yard drive, giving GU a 17-10 advantage.
- Columbia responded in the fourth quarter with an 80-yard touchdown drive, as Goodwin found Bryce Coleman for a 2-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 17-17 with 13:11 remaining.
- Neither team could break the tie in regulation, sending the game to overtime.
- Columbia struck first in overtime, with Hugo Merry converting a 25-yard field goal to give the Lions a 20-17 lead.
- Georgetown then had an opportunity to answer, but the Hoyas missed a field goal at the end of overtime, allowing Columbia to secure the 20-17 victory.
