Georgetown Earns First Sweep of Season Over Davidson

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team earned its first sweep of the season, defeating the Davidson Wildcats 3-0 (28-26, 25-22, 25-18) on Saturday afternoon in the Wake Forest Invitational at Varsity Arena. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 3-2 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 2-3.

"I think we showed some real resiliency against a very good and well-coached Davidson team. I do think it was our most complete game of this young season." - Head Coach AJ Bonetti

"I am so proud of this group for coming out fast and strong and showing off what we have been working so hard on. Getting to play with this family is very enjoyable because everyone is contributing so much, both on and off the court." -Junior Berkeley Ploder

The Hoyas took the first two points of the opener behind a kill from Berkley Ploder and a service ace from Dionna Mitchell before the Wildcats responded to take a 7-3 advantage. The Hoyas answered as Kamryn Lee-Caracci sparked the offense with four kills and two blocks to put Georgetown ahead 11-10. Following several timeouts and set points for both squads, the Hoyas secured a 28-26 victory on a Wildcat error and a Mitchell kill.

Trailing 15-14 midway through the second frame, Georgetown stayed close with kills from Grace Albaugh, Katherine McGregor, and Ploder. After falling behind 20-16 late, the Hoyas rallied with three Ploder kills and a block from Ploder and Albaugh to tie the set at 20-20. Lee-Caracci then took over, scoring four straight points on two kills and two blocks to seal the 25-22 set win.

Down one early in the third frame, Georgetown reclaimed the lead as Lee-Caracci sparked a 4-0 surge with a kill and a block before Mercado added a service ace for a 9-6 cushion. Capitalizing on Davidson errors alongside kills from Alexis Anderson, Ploder and Mitchell, the Hoyas stretched the lead to 16-11 and closed out a 25-18 set victory for the 3-0 match sweep.
