WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 13) - The Georgetown University women's soccer team was defeated by 18th-ranked Connecticut, 5-0, on Oct. 13. The Hoyas are now 7-7-2 overall, while the Huskies improve to 11-4-1 on the season.
Connecticut scored first at the 36:41 mark on a header from Kristin Gardiner off a pass from Jen Carlson. The Huskies led 1-0 at halftime.
After the halftime break, Kaycee McElree netted a goal at 59:26 off a pass from Lacey Toups. Mary Beth Bowie scored the next Husky tally at the 75:02 mark after receiving a pass from McElree. Carlson scored five minutes later, converting a cross from Mary-Frances Monroe. Monroe scored Connecticut's final goal on a penalty kick at 83:13.
Head Coach Diane Drake said, "You never want to play a top-20 team after they suffer a tough loss. We worked hard tonight, and I'm proud of the way we played."
Senior goalkeeper Emily Main (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) saved nine shots for Georgetown. Husky goalie Erin Rice had one save.
The Hoyas will be in action again as they play at Florida International on Friday, October 20, at 7p.m.
