WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Georgetown University womens tennis team was impressive on Saturday, Oct. 21, defeating Towson 6-1 by winning five of six singles matches and all of the doubles matches.
The #1 doubles team of senior Julie Hom (Newton, Mass./Newton South) and freshman Jordan Botjer (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) beat Towson's Lewis and Scott 8-3. Sophomores Kim Wattrick (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./University Liggett) and Hadley Muckerman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) defeated Brown and Dumansky at #2 doubles, 8-5. While junior Caroline Marshall (Pittsford, N.Y./Harley) and freshman Anne Thompson (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock) were victorious over the Towson duo of Chew and Pignatelli at #3, 8-2.
In singles action the two Hoya freshmen helped lead the way to victory. Freshman Botjer defeated Dana Lewis at #1 singles, 6-3, 6-3, while freshman Lara Madonia (Ramsey, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) had similar success, beating Megan Scott 6-4, 7-6 (5) at the #2 spot.
At #4 singles, sophomore Sarah White (Westwood, Mass./Milton) edged Sarah Dumansky by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Wattrick notched a win at #5 by defeating Betsy Chew 6-0, 6-1, and sophomore Muckerman outlasted Stacey Pignatelli at #6 with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. The only Hoya loss came at the #3 spot, where Lindsay Brown, 4-6, 6-2, 3-6, defeated sophomore Meredith Bumpass (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Hawken School (Colgate).
With the win, the Hoyas improve their dual match record to 2-4. Georgetown's next contest comes at the ITA Eastern Championships, which will be held on November 2-6 at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
