WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Georgetowns mens tennis team continued its successful fall season with a 5-2 win over Duquesne on October 21 in Pittsburgh.
By winning two of three doubles matches, the Hoyas managed to claim the doubles point. At #1 doubles, junior Nick Sklavanous (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) and sophomore Marc Lohser (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) defeated Vincente Arias and Drew Stephens of Duquesne, 8-3. Sophomore Troy Crichlow (Wilton, Mass./Milton) and freshman Dennis Cravedi (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) also won, defeating Chris Luka and Jason Mayer at #3 by a score of 9-8 (6). Meanwhile, at #2 doubles, the team of juniors Andre Benjamin (New York, N.Y./Fieldston) and Kenneth Jordan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) fell to Duquesnes duo of David Brady and Paul Tran, 8-4.
In singles competition, the Hoyas claimed key points by virtue of four victories in six matches. With a score of 6-3, 6-0, Crichlow notched a win versus Mayer at #3 singles while Cravedi edged Stephens at #4 with a 6-4, 6-4 final tally. The Hoyas Benjamin defeated Tran in straight sets at #5 singles, 7-6, 6-3, and Jordan had similar success with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Duquesnes Chin Kamp at #6.
The Hoyas only fell twice in singles matches. At the #1 spot, Georgetowns Sklavanous lost to Brady, 6-1, 6-4. Lohser was defeated by a margin of 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 by the Dukes Arias at #2 singles.
With their win, the Georgetown men improve their dual match record to 3-1. The Hoyas will next compete in the ITA Eastern Championships on November 2-6 at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va.
