Washington DC... Kevin Braswell paced the quartet of Hoyas in double figures with 16 points as Georgetown defeated the Latvia Select Team 87-72. Kevin also had 9 assists, 4 steals and 4 rebounds. Co-Captain Ruben Boumtje Boumtje had a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Freshmen Mike Sweetney and Gerald Riley each contributed 12 tallies. For the Latvia Select team, Will Carlton had 21 points and 9 boards while Raimonds Vaikulis scored 16.
The Hoyas dominated the opening frame, building a lead of as many as 25 (44-19 at 01:35) and taking a 46-22 lead into the locker room at intermission. In the second stanza the Latvia Select team came out on fire, cutting the Hoya lead down by 19 points, from 48-22 at 19:44 to 58-51 at 11:44. Georgetown then got back on track with a 23-5 run, which gave them a 25 point lead with 4:10 remaining 81-56. The final score was 87-72.
For the game the Hoyas outshot their opponents 44% to 40.6%, outrebounded the opposition 55-34 and committed 10 fewer fouls. Four Hoyas (Sweetney, Boumtje Boumtje, Demetrius Hunter and Wesley Wilson registered 2 blocks each).
