Eleventh-Seeded Hoyas Face #6 DePaul in First Round of BIG EAST Tournament

WASHINGTON – Georgetown men's basketball will travel to New York to face the sixth-seeded DePaul Blue Demons in the first round of the 2026 BIG EAST Tournament Presented by Jeep. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • In its last outing, Georgetown (14-17, 6-14 BE) defeated Providence on March 7, 80-79, at Capital One Arena to close the regular season. Vince Iwuchkwu scored a career-high 25 points on 9-for-13 shooting and a squad-best 10 rebounds off the bench to nab the double-double and lead a quintet of Hoyas in double-figure scoring. Kayvaun Mulready was GU's next leading scorer with 12 points, followed by Malik Mack and Caleb Williams with 11 points apiece, with Jeremiah Williams rounding out those in double figures with 10 of his own.Mulready dished out a team-high seven assists.
  • For his efforts in a 1-1 week, Mulready was named to the final BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll of the season after averaging 16.0 ppg, 4.5 apg and 3.0 spg.
  • Following a medical evaluation, junior guard KJ Lewis will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season after he suffered an injury to his left ankle that occurred in the game against Marquette on Tuesday, February 24.
  • A trio of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who ends his season averaging 14.9 ppg, followed by Mack (13.7 ppg) and Vince Iwuchukwu (11.9 ppg). Lewis ranks eighth in the BE in scoring.
  • Iwuchukwu leads the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 6.0 rpg, followed by C. Williams (5.2 rpg) and Lewis (5.1 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.2 apg, which is seventh in the league, followed by J. Williams (2.8 apg) and Lewis (2.5 apg).
  • Lewis ranks second in the BIG EAST and leads the Hoyas in strips with 2.1 spg.
  • Following the season Lewis was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team. He was the 19th Hoya in program history to earn the distinction and the first since last season when Thomas Sorber was named to the third team.
 
ABOUT THE BLUE DEMONS
  • DePaul closed out the 2025-2026 regular season with a 16-15 record, including an 8-12 mark in BIG EAST play.
  • In its last outing, DePaul fell to Butler 81-71 at Wintrust Arena on Saturday. NJ Benson led the Blue Demons with 24 points on 11-for-17 shooting, followed by Kaleb Banks with 11 points on four made field goals. Benson led DePaul with 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season while CJ Gunn and Layden Blocker pulled down six boards apiece. Brandon Maclin paced the Blue Demon offense with seven assists while Gunn dished out five.
  • Gunn leads DePaul with 13.3 ppg, followed by Benson (11.7 ppg), Blocker (10.9 ppg) and Maclin (10.8 ppg) to round out those in double figures.
  • Benson's 7.6 rpg leads the Blue Demons on the glass.
  • Blocker paces DePaul's offense with 3.4 apg, while Maclin dishes out 2.9 apg.
  • DePaul is led by Head Coach Chris Holtmann in his second season with the Blue Demons.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and DePaul will meet for the 56th time in program history, with the Hoyas holding a 37-18 record in the series but the squads split the season series with each team winning at home.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was on January 28 with Georgetown picking up a 70-61 victory over the Blue Demons at Capital One Arena. Mack led a quartet of Hoyas in scoring with 16 points that were fueled by a perfect 10-for-10 performance at the charity stripe. Halaifonua and Iwuchukwu scored 11 points apiece while C. Williams contributed 10 points. Mulready, C. Williams and Lewis each collected six rebounds to lead the Hoyas on the glass while Mack's seven assists paced GU's offense.
  • The last time the two programs met in the BIG EAST Tournament was in 2025 when Georgetown fell 71-67 to DePaul in the first round of the tournament. Micah Peavy, now with the New Orleans Pelicans, led the Hoyas in scoring with 26 points on 10-for-16 shooting. Drew Fielder and Curtis Williams Jr. each had 11 points, followed by Jayden Epps with 10 points. Fielder snagged 11 rebounds for the double-double and paced the Hoya offense with four assists.
  • Cooley maintains a 20-10 record against DePaul and a 6-6 mark against Holtmann.
  • Georgetown is 1-2 all-time against the Blue Demons in the BIG EAST Tournament and 0-2 as the #11 seed.
  • The Blue & Gray owns an even 10-10 record in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament and 4-8 against the sixth-ranked squad all-time.
