WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 29) -- George Mason rallied from a five-point deficit with five minutes to play to defeat Georgetown, 66-64. The win dropped the Hoyas record to 4-2, while the Patriots improved to 5-0.
The Hoyas got off to a slow start and fell behind by as many as 11 points in the first half. However, a 12-2 GU run tied the game at the half, 27-27. Georgetown shot 39 percent from the floor in the first half, but made only four of its 14 free-throw attempts.
The second half went back and forth as George Mason had an eight point lead with 14 minutes to play, only to see the Hoyas rally and take a lead on a Zsuzsanna Horvath jump shot with less 7:55 on the clock. With the score tied at 59 and 3:36 to play, George Mason scored six-straight points to take a 65-59 lead. GU's Lesley Walker scored on a layup with 14 seconds left and Katie Smrcka-Duffy nailed a 3-pointer with three seconds to play, but it was not enough as the Hoyas three-game winning streak came to an end.
Smrcka-Duffy led all players with 19 points. Rebekkah Brunson was 6-for-6 from the floor and had 12 points. Nathalie Bourdereau added nine points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
Georgetown is off until Saturday when Tulane visits Washington, D.C. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
