Georgetown Rolls Past Grambling State, 88-51

WASHINGTON (AP) - Mike Sweetney had 16 points and eight rebounds as unbeaten Georgetown routed Grambling State, 88-51, on Saturday (Dec. 9) in a non-conference game.

Wesley Wilson scored 14 points for the Hoyas (7-0), who are off to their best start since winning the first seven games of the 1992-93 season.

Devin Ewing tallied 12 points for Grambling State (0-3), which fell to 0-5 in the all-time series between the teams.

Nathaniel Burton and Ruben Boumtje Boumtje added 10 points apiece for Georgetown, which came up with 15 steals and benefited from 26 Grambling turnovers.

Georgetown used two impressive runs against the outmanned Tigers to build a 49-14 lead at halftime. Grambling was 4-for-31 from the field in the first half and committed 15 turnovers.

A basket by William McDonald 1:42 into the game got Grambling within 6-4. But the Hoyas put together a 17-0 outburst over the next four minutes, with Sweetney scoring five of his 11 first-half points.

After a pair of free throws by Paul Haynes and Gene Parker's long 3-pointer from the left wing cut the Georgetown lead to 23-9, the Hoyas outscored Grambling 16-0 over the next 6:16 for a 39-12 cushion.

Wilson's turnaround jumper in the foul lane gave the Hoyas their largest lead, 68-23, with 13:59 left in the second half.
