SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- Lee Scruggs led the Hoyas with 22 points and Kevin Braswell added 11 but it wasn't enough as Georgetown lost to Syracuse, 67-52 at the Carrier Dome on Feb. 27.
For the first eight minutes of the second half, it was Syracuse against Scruggs, who scored 10 of the Hoyas' first 11 points of the period.
The Hoyas hit four of six shots. Courtland Freeman hit a short jumper at 14:33 to begin a 10-2 Georgetown run. Two 3-pointers by Kevin Braswell put the Hoyas up 13-9 midway through the period, but neither team was able to put together any kind of a spurt.
Jason Hart had 15 points, seven assists and seven rebounds for the Orangemen.
When the game was still in doubt with just under seven minutes remaining, Hart scored 10 straight points to give Syracuse a double-digit lead. His baseline jumper, off a feed from Blackwell, put the Orangemen ahead 53-42 with 5:49 left.
Thomas had four blocks, his swat of an attempt by Nat Burton with 3:15 left giving him 225 for his career. That moved him into second place in Big East history behind former Georgetown great Patrick Ewing and one more than Alonzo Mourning, who also played for the Hoyas.
The Hoyas led the conference in field-goal percentage defense coming in, but Syracuse came alive in the second half and finished the game shooting 48 percent.
Lee Scruggs led Georgetown with 22 points.
Preston Shumpert, who along with Damone Brown had 13 points for Syracuse, partially dislocated the middle finger of his shooting hand three minutes into the second half but only sat out briefly.
Syracuse finally managed to build a big lead after Scruggs was called for his fourth foul with 11:32 left and was forced to sit.
Syracuse led 27-25 at halftime, a season low for points in the first half for the Orangemen. They hit only 34.5 percent of their shots in the period - 2-of-11 from 3-point range.
