Georgetown Women Defeat Villanova, 63-50

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 5, 2000) -- Katie Smrcka-Duffy (Jr., Sterling, Va./James Madison) tied a season-high with 28 points as Georgetown defeated Villanova, 63-50. Smrcka Duffy made six free throws in the final minute and notched her second-straight double-double with 11 rebounds.

The Hoyas set a school-record by committing just three turrnovers on the day. The previous record was six set against both Villanova in 1999 and Providence in 1997. The two teams were tied at 24 at the half. The Hoyas went on a 10-1 run early in the second half to take the lead for good. Villanova managed to cut the deficit to three with 10 minutes to play, but never got any closer.

Junior Nathalie Bourdereau (River Ridge, La./Ridgewood Prep) chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds for the Hoyas, who improved to 12-8 overall and 5-4 in the BIG EAST. Freshman Nok Duany (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North) scored eight points and six rebounds.

Freshman Trish Juline (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) led Villanova (12-8, 5-4) with 18 points. Senior Jenea Skeeters (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) added 11 points. Junior Brandi Barnes (Joppatowne, Md./Joppatowne) led the Wildcats with 11 rebounds.

Georgetown is off until Wedneday when they travel to Seton Hall. Villanova will at West Virginia on Wednesday.
