Hoya Baseball Falls To Navy, 8-6

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (March 29) - Georgetown had a 6-5 advantage midway through the sixth, but Navy scored two runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to defeat the Hoyas by a 8-6 margin on March 29 in collegiate baseball action at Bishop Stadium.

Keith Asato (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii/Kaiser) singled in the second inning to score a pair of runs to give Georgetown (10-20, 0-6 BIG EAST) a 2-0 margin. But, the Midshipmen (9-10-1) responded with five runs on two outs in their half of the inning. Three walks, three wild pitches, one balk, and one Hoya error assisted Navy's big inning performance.

The Hoyas rallied to take the lead with two runs in the fourth and a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth. Asato singled in another run in the fourth and stole third. Jay Catalano (Jr., Hunting Valley, Ohio/University School) grounded to the shortstop to bring in Asato to trim the Navy advantage to 5-4. In the next frame, Matt Carullo (Fr., Oakton, Va./Paul VI) hit a RBI single, and Jason Boice (Fr., Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) scored Josh Corman (Sr., Lexington, Ky./Lafayette) to put GU ahead 6-5.

Two Navy players each doubled in a run in the bottom stanza, and the Midshipmen's Tony Moore added an insurance run with a homer in the seventh for the final 8-6 win. Asato went 2-4 with three RBI and Carullo was 3-5 with a RBI and two runs scored to lead the Hoyas. Eric Sutton (So., Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) appeared on the mound for GU for the first time this season. He started the first two innings allowing only two hits. Paul Perillo (So., Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Ardsley) was credited with the loss after allowing two earned runs off five hits in three innings.

Georgetown will face Brown on March 30 at 3:00 p.m., and then host the Pirates of Seton Hall in a BIG EAST match-up over the weekend. Game one of the April 1 doubleheader begins at 12 noon with the final contest of the three-game series starting at 12 noon on April 2.
