Georgetown lost its first conference match of the season on Sunday, getting blanked 9-0 by Syracuse at the Montclair Country Club. The Hoyas stand at 3-4 overall on the season and fall to 1-1 in the BIG EAST.
Lucky (Sr., Lake City, Fla./Texas Tech) and Sarada Ravindra (Sr., Lake City, Fla./Texas Tech) each fell at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots. Shareen Lai beat Lucky 6-0, 6-4 and Ana Khvalina downed Sarada, 6-4, 6-4. Michelle Neveklovska beat Missy Mendes (Sr., Summit, N.J./Oak Knoll) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. At No. 4 singles, Lauren Mendes (Sr., Summit, N.J./Oak Knoll) put together a solid match but lost to Masha Kabanova, 6-4, 7-5. Caroline Marshall (So., Pittsford, N.Y./Harley) lost the first set 6-2 against her opponent, Zuzanna Borucka in the No. 5 position. Marshall battled hard in the second, losing only one of her serves and the set by a 7-5 margin. Katie Thompson won easily in two sets over Ayana Brooks (Sr., Somerset, N.J./Franklin) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
At No. 1 doubles, Lai and Khvalina defeated the Ravindra twins by an 8-3 score in the No. 1 doubles spot. At No. 2 doubles, the freshmen pairing of Hadley Muckerman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) and Kim Wattrick (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./University Liggett) fell 8-1 to Neveklovska and Kabanova. M. Mendes and Sarah White (Fr., Westwood, Mass./Milton) were downed by Thompson and Shervin Saedinia, 8-2 at No. 3.
The Hoyas travel to Florida during Spring Break to take on Barry University and Davidson College. The match against Barry will be played on Tuesday, March 7 at Barry at 10:00 a.m., while the contest against Davidson will be on Wednesday, March 8 in Boca Raton also at 10:00 a.m.
