WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 10) - Georgetown's men's tennis team defeated Howard 5-2 on April 10 at the Howard University Tennis Courts. The win ended a 10-game winless streak for the Hoyas and gives them their first victory since March 9. GU's overall record moves to 4-18 overall.

Georgetown won the doubles point with a sweep over HU. The tandem of Marc Lohser (Fr., Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) and Beau Brewer (Sr., Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) bested the Bison's Chad Hamilton and Jamar Stephens, 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Nick Sklavounos (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) and Troy Crichlow (Fr., Wilton, Mass./Milton) handed Howard's No. 3 team of Khalid Salah-Eddine and Jamal Ahmed an 8-0 thrashing. At No. 2 doubles, the duo of Ken Jordan (So., Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) and Dave Boyer (Sr., Winston-Salem, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) won for the fifth time in six matches with a 9-7 win over Dwayne Papon and Nic Askew.

Leading 1-0 heading into doubles, GU won four of the six singles matches to take the victory. Brewer and Boyer captured straight set wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Brewer defeated Askew, 6-1, 6-1 while Boyer recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ahmed. Howard also claimed two straight set victories when Hamilton beat Sklavounos 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 and Salah-Eddine posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jordan at No. 5 singles.

The Hoyas, leading by a 3-2 team score, needed to win just one of the last two matches. Both matches, which went to third set tie-breaks, ended with GU wins. Lohser lost his first set 0-6 at No. 2, but broke one of Papon's service games to win the second set, 6-4. The two combatants battled it out in third with Lohser taking a 7-6(5) win to clinch the victory. Crichlow, who played at No. 3 with the Bison's Stephens, won his first set 6-4 but lost the second 5-7, and went on to claim the third in a 7-6(10) tie-break.

GU's men's tennis team hosts George Washington on Wednesday, April 12, at 3:00 p.m. at the McDonough Tennis Courts.
