Geneva, N.Y. (April 15) - Jamie Sharpe scored the last three goals of the game, including the game winner with 6:37 to play as Georgetown rallied from a 9-3 deficit to defeat Hobart, 10-9, on Saturday, April 15. With the victory, the Hoyas won their third-straight game and improved to 9-1 on the season, their best 10-game start in school history.
Hobart held the potent Hoyas' offense in check in the first half. After the Statesmen opened the scoring in the game's second minute, Peter Velepec (Sr., Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) tied the game with an unassisted goal just three minutes later. It would be the Hoyas only goal of the quarter as Hobart led 3-1 after 15 minutes of play.
Andy Flick (Sr., Wilton, Conn./Wilton) opened the scoring in the second period but Hobart answered with two goals to take a 5-2 lead. Velepec added his second goal of the game for the Hoyas, but Hobart's Jason Ouellet found the net late in the half to give Hobart at 6-3 lead at intermission.
Hobart scored the first three goals of the third quarter and the Hoyas, currently ranked sixth in the country, trailed 9-3 with 9:18 to play. That was all the scoring the Statesmen would have as the Hoyas' defense held them without a goal for the final 24 minutes of play.
Georgetown would score the next seven goals, including four in the final period to escape Geneva with a win. Flick, Steve Dusseau (So., Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington), and Scott Urick (Sr., Fairfax, Va./Robinson) tallied goals in the third quarter
Art Price (Sr., Glyndon, Md./Loyola) opened the final period with a goal at the 11:19 mark, and Sharpe scored just 14 seconds later to cut the lead to 9-8. Both of the goals were assisted by freshman Kyle Sweeney (Springfield, Pa./Springfield). Sharpe tied the game at 8:12 on a feed from Price and scored an unassisted goal for the game winner with 6:37 to play.
Sophomore goalkeeper Scott Schroeder (So., Summit, N.J./Summit) kept the Hoyas in the game with an outstanding effort in the cage. Schroeder made 11 of his career-high 20 saves in the second half for Georgetown.
