MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Georgetown's men's tennis team traveled to Morgantown, W.Va. on April 15 and faced off with BIG EAST opponents West Virginia and Rutgers. Georgetown fell 6-1 to West Virginia in the morning and then lost 5-2 to Rutgers in the afternoon.

Georgetown (5-20) played some close singles matches against West Virginia in the early going, but came away with only one victory. That victory came at #2 singles, where Hoya Marc Lohser (Fr., Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) won 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Hoyas' Troy Crichlow (Fr., Wilton, Mass./Milton) and Andre Benjamin (So., New York, N.Y./Fieldston) both lost 6-3, 7-5 at #3 and #5, respectively. At #1 singles, Nick Sklavounos (So., Waterford, Conn./Waterford) fell, 6-3, 6-1. Beau Brewer (Sr., Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) was defeated at #4, 6-1, 6-1 and Ken Jordan (So., Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) lost at #6, 6-1, 6-4.

In the doubles competition the Mountaineers swept the Hoyas. Lohser and Brewer lost at #1 8-4, Sklavounos and Benjamin fell 8-2 at #2 and Jordan and Dave Boyer (Sr., Winston-Salem, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) were handed an 8-4 loss at #3.

The next match pitted Georgetown and Rutgers. The Hoyas came away with two victories in the singles competition but lost the dual match 5-2. Brewer coasted to a victory at #4 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Crichlow had a more difficult time at #3 but came away the victor, 7-6, 4-6, 7-5. In the #5 singles position, Benjamin had his opponent on the ropes but could not convert and lost, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Sklavounos fell at #1, 6-1, 6-1, Lohser lost at #2, 6-4, 6-2 and Jordan was handed a 6-1, 6-2 loss at #6.

Georgetown headed into the doubles portion of the match and won one of three matches. The tandem of Sklavounos and Benjamin were victorious at #2 doubles, 8-5. The # 1 duo of Lohser and Brewer lost 8-2 and the #3 team of Jordan and Boyer fell 8-4.

GU's men's tennis team travels next to Miami, Fla. to play in the BIG EAST Championships on April 20-23, 2000.
