WASHINGTON, D.C. (Aug. 25) - Georgetown University's women's soccer team was defeated 3-2 by Towson University on Aug. 25 at Harbin Field. The Hoyas tied the game with 14 seconds left in regulation, but ended up losing in overtime.
Freshman Jen Choiniere (Merrimack, N.H.) scored first for the Hoyas. The goal was the first of her career and came at the 37.51 mark on a penalty kick. The Tigers did not waste time, as Martha Bielefeld tied the game four minutes later off a cross from Natalie Klisas.
In the second half, Fran Crupi of Towson scored off an assist from Melissa Mueller to put the Tigers ahead 2-1. The Hoyas battled back and with 14 seconds left freshman Lauren Calone (Branchburg, N.J.) scored her first career goal, tying the game. Alyson Smith assisted Calone, whose shot hit the goalpost before going in. The game was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation.
No one was able to score in the first overtime period, but in the second overtime, Towson was able to put the game away. Maggie Lennon scored the game-winning goal for the Tigers at the 108.40 mark, off an assist from Melissa Mueller.
The Hoyas will be in action again as they host George Washington at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Harbin Field.
