WASHINGTON, D.C.
Liz Delgado (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./Capistrano Valley) showed why she was selected to the preseason All-BIG EAST Team as she scored the game-winning goal for the Georgetown women's soccer team. Delgado headed in a cross from
Lindsey Steiger (Randolph N.J., Randolph) at 6:59 as the Hoyas shut out the University of Central Florida, 1-0. Georgetown has won two in a row and is now .500.
Alyssa Conlow (Allentown, N.J./Hamilton) and Casey Hoffman (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley) anchored the backfield and were able to shut down the Golden Knights' relentless attacks. Georgetown's defense held Central Florida to just two shots in the second half.
"I'm very proud of our team performance today," said head coach Diane Drake, "Our defense is evolving nicely, they're finding good rhythm and fluidity. I give credit to Karin Ostrander (Atherton, Calif./Menlo Atherton School) and Liz Delgado who played with tremendous passion and led our attack."
Georgetown goalkeeper Emily Main (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) had three saves and posted her third shutout of the season. University of Central Florida goalie Maria Banuls had five saves in a losing effort. The Hoyas will be in action again as they host St. John's University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, at Harbin Field.
