WASHINGTON, D.C. -
Liz Delgado (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./Capistrano Valley) showed why she was named BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Week as she scored Georgetown's winning goal for the second straight game.
Delgado connected off an assist from Jen Choiniere (Merrimack, N.H./Bishop Guertin) at 75:56 as the Hoyas defeated St. John's University, 3-2. Georgetown has now won three games in a row and is currently 4-3.
The Red Storm scored first as Kristy Bergen was able to put her corner kick in the net at 2:49. Twenty minutes later, Liz Delgado knotted the game at one when she scored off an assist from Kelly Haden (San Marino, Calif./Polytechnic School). Jaime Clark scored for St. John's at 30:16 and the Red Storm led at halftime, 2-1.
Head coach Diane Drake changed Georgetown's system of play in the second half, and the Hoyas took control. Jen Choiniere headed in a corner kick from Alyson Smith (Parsippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) at 62:02 to tie the game at two. Delgado's second goal of the game put the Hoyas up for good, and also moved her to third place on Georgetown's all-time list in both career goals and points.
Hoya goalkeeper Emily Main (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) had three saves and earned her fourth win of the season. Jen Frankel had six saves for St. John's.
The Georgetown women's soccer team will be in action again as they play at James Madison on Tuesday, September 19, at 7 p.m.
