WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 24) - The women's soccer team tied Rutgers University, 1-1, in its first BIG EAST Mid-Atlantic game of the season on Sept. 24. The Hoyas, who have not lost in five games, are now 4-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the BIG EAST.
Rutgers scored first as Keri Lages connected at 14:28 for the Scarlet Knights. However, less than five minutes later the Hoyas knotted the game at one. At 19:17, senior midfielder Liz Delgado (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./Capistrano Valley) netted her sixth goal of the season off a pass from sophomore defender Casey Hoffman (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley). Delgado is now second in both career goals (15) and points (44) for Georgetown, and has already matched her 1999 goal total.
Throughout the second half and both overtime periods, neither team could score again. Thus, the game ended deadlocked at one.
Hoya goalkeeper Emily Main (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) played all 120 minutes of the contest and had five saves. Christine Caldwell had four saves for the Scarlet Knights.
The Hoyas will be in action again as they play at James Madison on Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. Georgetown's next home game is Sept. 29, at 4 p.m. against UNC-Wilmington.
