Ostrander Scores Game-Winner WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 29, 2000) -- Sophomore forward Karin Ostrander (Atherton, Calif./Menlo Atherton School) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal as the Hoyas blanked the Seahawks, 2-0. Georgetown's women's soccer team is now 5-4-2. Freshman midfielder Alyssa Conlow (Allentown, N.J./Hamilton) received the ball off a free kick and passed it to Ostrander, who one-timed it into the net at 4:28. Ostrander currently leads the Hoyas with seven goals, three of which have been game-winners.
Georgetown's next goal was a result of unselfish play. Junior forward Kelly Haden (San Marino, Calif./Polytechnic School) could have taken a tough shot, but instead opted to pass to a wide-open teammate. At 60:12, junior defender Alyson Smith (Parsippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) connected on a beautiful shot, scoring her third goal of the season.
The Hoyas play looked quite polished. They worked well together and controlled the ball the entire game. The Seahawks' frustration was obvious as they racked up 23 fouls. Georgetown senior goalkeeper Emily Main (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) had four saves in her fourth shutout of the season. Meghan Fitzsimmons had three saves for UNC Wilmington.
The Hoyas will be in action again as they host BIG EAST Mid-Atlantic rival, Seton Hall University, on Sunday, October 1, at 1 p.m.
