WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Lesley Walker (Silver Spring, Md/Wheaton) had her first double-double of the season as Georgetown defeated Hofstra, 86-63. The junior scored 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out seven assists as the Hoyas improved to 8-3 on the season.
Georgetown broke open the game early in the second half with a 20-1 run. The Hoyas held the Pride (3-7) without a field goal for more than 11 minutes during the second half.
Freshman Rebekkah Brunson (Oxon Hill, Md.) led the team with 14 points and added seven rebounds. Joi Irby (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points. The sophomore from Richmond drained three 3-pointers on the day. Sophomore Shawntese Charles (Washington, D.C./St. John's) also reached double-figures with 10 points. All 12 Georgetown players had at least three points in the game.
Hofstra's Jen Brickey led all players with 28 points and 12 rebounds. She scored 21 of those points in the first half.
Georgetown will travel to Storrs, Conn., Connecticut, the defending national-champions, on Jan. 2 at 7:30
