Hoyas Fall at Virginia Tech, 79-50

BLACKSBURG, Va. (January 20, 2001) -- Rebekkah Brunson (Oxon Hill, Md.) scored a career-high 20 points in a losing cause as Georgetown fell to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, 79-50.

The Hokies went on a 12-2 run early in the contest to take an 18-9 lead and held the lead the rest of the way.

GU cut the lead to six with 1:24 to play in the half but two Virginia Tech lay-ups gave the Hokies a 10-point lead at intermission. The Hoyas, who fell to 10-7 overall and 2-4 in BIG EAST play, shot just 30 percent in the first half. Virginia Tech raced to a double-digit lead early in the second half as the Hoyas never came within 10 points the rest of the contest. Ieva Kublina led three Hokies in double figures with 19 points.

Brunson continued her outstanding play for the Hoyas in the game. In addition to her 20 points, she grabbed 10 rebounds in recording her sixth double-double of the season. She was 7-14 from the field. Katie Smrcka-Duffy added 12 points. The Hokies, now 12-5 overall and 3-3 in the BIG EAST, outrebounded GU 45-30.

Georgetown is on the road again as they head to Pittsburgh to play the Panthers on Wednesday, January 24.
