Georgetown Falls to Miami, 5-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 22, 2000) -- The Georgetown University women's soccer team was defeated by the University of Miami on October 22, 5-1. The Hoyas are now 8-8-2 overall, while the Hurricanes are 9-8-1 on the year.

Alison Ford scored first for Miami at 2:28 off assists by Lisa Gomez and Jordan Sims. Vonda Mathews netted the next goal for the Hurricanes at 13:04, converting on passes from Gomez and Nikki Safran. Alexis MacKenzie put Miami up by three at 22:12, scoring off assists by Mathews and Safran. Freshman midfielder Jen Choiniere (Merrimack, N.H./Bishop Guertin) put Georgetown on the board at 39:03. Choiniere scored her seventh goal of the season when she knocked in a free kick taken by freshman midfielder Alyssa Conlow (Allentown, N.J./Hamilton). The Hurricanes led 3-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Miami added to its lead, connecting on two corner kicks. Ford scored her second goal of the game at 55:10, off an assist from Gomez. Mathews sealed the win at 57:18, netting her second goal off passes from Gomez and Safran. Senior goalkeeper Emily Main (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) tallied one save for Georgetown, while Elizabeth Swinson had one save for Miami. The Hoyas will be in action again when they play BIG EAST Mid-Atlantic rival West Virginia University in Morgantown on Wednesday, October 25, at 7 p.m.
