Midnight Madness Huge Success

October 16, 2001

Georgetown's McDonough Gymnasium's was the site of a sell out on Friday for Midnight Madness. Hot dogs and Burgers were grilled out in front of the building starting at 10.p.m. and when the doors opened at 10:30 p.m. the crowd filled the building to capacity. WPGC supplied the MC and rapper Bubba Sparxxx performed before the Men?s and Women?s Basketball teams were introduced. Georgetown's men's basketball coach Craig Esherick and women's coach Patrick Knapp addressed the crowd and offered insights into the upcoming season. There was a slam dunk contest (won by Wesley Wilson) and Kevin Braswell defeated Lesley Walker of the Women?s team in a three point shooting contest. In addition to dance performances by the Georgetown Kickline, Groove theory, cheerleaders and a student break dance group, the night included a hotly contested faculty-student basketball game that the faculty narrowly won (due to some questionable calls by guest referee Craig Esherick) and a "pizza box stacking contest" courtesy of sponsor Pizza Hut.
