WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown women?s soccer team?s record fell to 8-7-1, 1-4-1 in the BIG EAST Mid-Atlantic Division, after losing to No. 24-ranked West Virginia 4-1 today. The Mountaineers improved to 12-3-1 on the season.
The Mountaineers began their scoring run at 12:25 when Katie Barnes blasted a shot into the upper-right hand corner of the goal from 40 yards out, just out of the reach of Hoya goalie Shereena Chang (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades). West Virginia scored again at 23:16 when Lisa Stoia passed the ball to Chrissie Abbott, who tapped in her first of two goals, making the score 2-0. Abbott scored her second goal unassisted at 39:42.
The Hoyas answered with a goal of their own just 15 seconds later when Jessie Beers-Altman (State College, Pa./State College Area) passed the ball to Courtney Shaub (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) who tapped in her fourth goal of the season at 39:57.
Barnes scored the final goal for West Virginia unassisted at 54:14.
Chang tallied five saves, while WVU goaltender Laura Finley made two stops.
Georgetown wraps up their 2001 season on Wednesday, October 31 when they host BIG EAST foe Virginia Tech at 3 p.m.
