WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Georgetown University women's basketball head coach Patrick Knapp has announced that Carmen Bruce (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Georgetown next season.
Bruce, a 5-10 guard/forward, averaged 21.5 points, 10 rebounds, 5.1 assists and four steals per game as a junior Schenley High School. She is the three-time Pittsburgh City League Player of the Year, as named by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. She was named a Street & Smith All-American Honorable Mention and is an Adidas top 100 player. Bruce also excels in track and field and holds the Pittsburgh high school record in the shot put and discus.
Bruce was raised in a women's college basketball environment. Her father, Kirk Bruce, was the women's basketball head coach at the University of Pittsburgh from 1985-1998. He currently serves as an Assistant Athletic Director for Olympic Sports at Pittsburgh.
"Carmen is one of the premier big guards in the country and we are very happy to have her at Georgetown," said Knapp. "She is not only skilled with a basketball but she is a quality student and person. She has been taught very well. Her father, Kirk, a longtime women's basketball coach at the University of Pittsburgh, has done a great job with her."
