Box Score

Hamilton, N.Y. - Georgetown University had four players in double-figures and used timely shooting down the stretch to hold off a pesky Colgate squad to earn a 83-69 win in a non-conference women's basketball match-up Monday at Cotterell Court.

Lesley Walker (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) netted 18 points, including four three-pointers, while Nok Duany (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington High) added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and Zsuzsanna Horvath (Budapest, Hungary/ELTE Trefort Agoston (Central Fla. C.C.)) each chipped in with 11 points a piece to lead the Hoyas. Colgate had three players in double figures and were led by freshman Allison Lipinski's (Garfield, Ohio/Garfield) 22 points, including four three-point field goals. Sophomore Malissa Burke (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) drained 18 points and hauled in a team-high nine rebounds while senior Sarah Parks (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline Academy) chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

The Hoyas jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the first five minutes of play and looked in control of the game as Colgate misfired on its first 10 shots. The next five minutes however belonged to the Raiders who outscored Georgetown 15 to 6 on a jumper from Lipinski, two lay-ups from Parks, a turn-around jumper from Leandra Fuller (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and a quick five points from Burke who hit a lay-up and a three-pointer in short order. Colgate closed the gap to 16-15 with 10 minutes remaining in the half on a jumper from junior Jaime Glenn (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J./Point Pleasant) off an assist from junior Ali Hanson (Norwalk, Iowa/Dowling).

Colgate continued to threaten for the lead, but Georgetown's Walker hit two consecutive three pointers, Duany scored on a lay-up and Joi Irby (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) hit a three to stretch the Hoya lead to seven at 33-26 with 5:21 left on the clock to give Hoyas some breathing room. Georgetown held a 43-33 lead at the half.

In the second half, Colgate came out firing outscoring Georgetown 10-3, to trail by three at 46-43 with 18 minutes remaining in the game, but couldn't get over the hump as Georgetown hit clutch basket after clutch basket to fend of the Raiders. Georgetown went on a 13-1 run as Colgate went cold for the next seven minutes to take a 55-46 lead. Colgate continued to peck away at the lead, but could not get any closer than six points the rest of the way.
