Washington, D.C. -- Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) scored a game-high 21 points, including seven three-pointers which tied the GU record of threes in a game held by Kim Gallon vs. Miami (1/31/98), as Georgetown outlasted American, 78-56, in women's basketball. The Hoyas' overall record now stands at 6-2.
American (5-4) was in control of the early portion of the game, holding a 12-8 advantage with 12:48 to play in the first half. Georgetown answered quickly though, on the strength of a 20-4 run, to take a 28-16 lead with 3:41 remaining in the half.
Leading 31-20 at the half, the Hoyas came out of the locker room rolling, Lisicky hit three straight threes to start an 18-3 run which gave the Hoyas a commanding 49-25 lead with 12:56 left in the game. Georgetown shot 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the floor in the second half, including six-of-11 from three-point range.
Nok Duany (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington High) and Rebekkah Brunson (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) each scored 13 for the Hoyas, who now lead the all-time series with the cross-town Eagles, 21-11. Duany led the Hoyas in rebounding, grabbing eight boards. American was led by Chanel Hunt and Chanel Spriggs, who each netted 11 points. Spriggs added a career-high 10 rebounds, while Maria Werries also scored 10 points and had four steals for the Eagles.
Next up for the Hoyas will be UMBC at McDonough Arena on December 20 at 7 p.m.
